Phyllis A. Sturek

February 26, 1941 — December 14, 2022

Phyllis A. Sturek, age 81 of Toledo, went peacefully into the hands of the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was born to Theodore and Julia (Maciejewski) Wrzesinski on February 26, 1941. Phyllis graduated from Woodward High School in 1959 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Toledo prior to her teaching career. She taught English and was the advisor for the school newspaper, first at Whitmer High School and subsequently at Central Catholic High School. After she and her husband, Robert, raised their children, Phyllis returned to school to earn an associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting from Lourdes University, enabling her to utilize her skills educating people in yet another way.

Those closest to Phyllis will forever remember her strong Catholic faith and love of family. An outward example of her devotion was her service as a lector, eucharistic minister and council member for St. Clement Church. One of her special skills was her proficiency in the baking of elaborate birthday and wedding cakes. It is notable that she baked and decorated wedding cakes for all three of her children as well as special-themed birthday cakes – especially for her grandchildren. A skilled reader, Phyllis often read aloud to her children and grandchildren. Her family will miss vacation time spent collecting seashells together at North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Robert, daughters, Sandy (Bob) Winterhalter, Corry (Craig) Voll, and Julie (John) Seib, siblings; Carol (Tom) Landin, Theodore Wrzesinski and Edward Wrzesinski. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Ryan Voll, Casey Voll, Hannah Voll, Grace Seib and Jack Seib. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Madelyn Ann Seib.
