Kathleen “ Kathy” Smieszny of Toledo, Ohio passed away Sunday July 19, 2026, in Toledo Hospital.
She was born on April 24, 1949, to Eugene and Helen (Rejent) Smieszny. Kathy graduated from Central Catholic High School and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo.
After graduation Kathy began her career at Toledo Hospital in the Histology laboratory working in both teaching and supervisory positions. Following Toledo Hospital, Kathy was employed for a medical equipment company where she travelled across the country installing medical equipment. She finished her career at the University of Michigan where she worked as department supervisor until she retired.
Kathy was a lover of the arts, belonging to the Toledo Museum of Art and attending classes at the 577 Foundation on a regular basis. Crosby Gardens was also one of her favorite spots to visit.
She had a close group of friends that she spent her time with some who she had known since she was in grade school. Her closest and dearest of these friends were Nancy Luda and Sharon McCluskey. Also close to her heart were her Rottweiler dogs, which were her constant companions.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law Jim Rahe. She is survived by her sister Marcia Rahe, nephew Paul (Cheryl) Rahe, niece Carrie Patnode, 3 great nieces, 2 great nephews and 1 great-great nephew.
Her family will be receiving friends in the Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd Toledo, Ohio on Monday August 3,2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Any contributions can be given to the St. Judes Children Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
