Marilyn Ruth Houghtlen

March 23, 1952 — April 19, 2021

MARILYN RUTH HOUGHTLEN, 69, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 19, 2021 at home with her daughter Heather (Tim) Ruffin in Toledo, Ohio. Marilyn was born March 23, 1952 to Donald Theisen and Irene Fisher Theisen in Norwalk, Ohio. She married Larry Houghtlen July 18, 1970 who preceded her in death in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by close friend Scott Brant.

Marilyn graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1970. After her children were born she went to EHOVE and earned a certificate in culinary arts. For many years she worked at the New London Pizza House and also at EPIC technologies. She was a volunteer at St. Mary’s church and school while her children were in elementary school. She worked in the school cafeteria, cooked and cleaned at the parish rectory, and for ten years she and her husband Larry ran the St. Mary’s BINGO fundraiser. Meals on Wheels were also on her volunteer agenda.

Marilyn is survived by her five daughters: Renee (Jack) Culbertson of Miamisburg, OH; Beth (Michael) Kreager of Norwalk, OH; Heather (Tim) Ruffin of Toledo, OH; Mary (Dan) Molique of Monroeville, OH; and Emily Houghtlen of Sandusky, OH. Also surviving are her siblings John (Karen) Theisen of Sandusky; Sister Rosellyn Theisen of Toledo; Donna (Richard) Bowers of Kalamazoo, MI; James (Alice) Theisen of Graytown, OH; Peggy (Clarence) Thomas of Clarksfield, OH. Marilyn loved her grandchildren very much, and Bree the pastel calico cat. She was grateful for the love and care given her by Sam, Alex, and Teddy Ruffin during the past year. She also cherished Lauren and Austin Culbertson, Alexis and Michael Kreager, Jacob Leimeister, and Jaycen Baker.

Mom had a sparkle in her eye and a smile from ear to ear whenever she was scratching off a lottery ticket.
She loved sitting on the front porch watching a storm come in. Mom was a “saint” with all she’s endured over the years. Grandkids remember she enjoyed visiting the casino and she loved candy the kids left behind. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
