Harold "Poppy" Brownlee

Harold "Poppy" Brownlee age 92 passed away peacefully with loving family by his side at The Otterbein Sunset House cared for by Ashante Hospice, on Saturday February 25, 2023. Harold was born in Marion, Pennsylvania to WIllis and Emma (Vorhes) Brownlee on July 7, 1930. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1949. Harold served in the United States Army Artillery Corp. During the Korean War. Harold retired from the Toledo Blade in 1995, where he had worked for 40+ years. He and his wife Shirley were very active in Round and Square Dance circles for many years. He was a member of the Toledo Bridge Club, earning the rank of "Life Master". After Retirement Harold Volunteered at Northwest Ohio Hospice in Perrysburg. His real legacy is his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved and adored. His memory will be with them forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 70 years Shirley Ann Brownlee (2022), brothers Willis Brownlee and Charles Carpenter, sister Martha Guard and 2 infant great granddaughters. Harold is survived by his children Doug (Kim) Brownlee Temperance, MI, and Pamela Mitchell Cumming ,GA, brothers Samuel Brownlee and Robert Brownlee. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers any donations can be made to Ashante Hospice @ Otterbein Sunset House. The family will be receiving friends in the Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd Toledo, Ohio on Saturday March 4 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. where the funeral services will begin at 3:00 p.m..
