Walter Ray Scott, Sr. aka “Scottie” April 28, 1945 – April 25, 2026 Walter Ray Scott, Sr. ”Scottie”, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026, just three days shy of his 81st birthday, surrounded by his loving family.

Scottie was born on April 28, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to Roger and Mary Ellen (DeFever) Scott. He was the middle of five children and grew up on the east side of Toledo. He graduated from Waite High School, Class of 1963.

On January 24, 1964, Scottie married the love of his life, Jereece Sue Roscoe. Together they built a life rooted in love, commitment, and perseverance, sharing 62 years of marriage. Though many doubted their young union would last, they proved them wrong in the most beautiful way.

Scottie dedicated 37½ years of service to Columbia Gas of Ohio before retiring in 2000. He was a hardworking and dependable man who took great pride in providing for his family.

He lived a life deeply centered around family, community, and proudly supporting his favorite college team, the University of Michigan, “Go Blue.” While living in Lambertville, Michigan, he served as a volunteer firefighter. After moving to Ottawa Lake in 1976, he became actively involved in his children’s activities and local programs. As president of Whiteford Recreation Club, he helped bring a ballpark to life, creating opportunities for countless young athletes.

In retirement, Scottie and Jereece moved to Malvern, Arkansas, to be closer to their grandchildren in Mississippi. In 2017, they relocated to Houston, Texas, where they lived with their son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Scottie cherished time spent with his family, especially watching and celebrating his grandchildren’s lives and accomplishments—Josh’s service in the United States Marine Corps, Skyler’s passion for skateboarding, Lilliana’s horseback riding, Mavrick’s scouting journey toward Eagle Scout, and Justin’s devotion as a father to his boys. He was immensely proud of all his children and grandchildren.

Scottie had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He and Jereece shared a love of travel, visiting all 50 states, enjoying cruises, and making yearly trips back to Ohio for Waite High School reunions and gas company gatherings. In Houston, he also helped start a Friday euchre group at the senior center, building friendships and community wherever he went.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Jereece Scott; his son, Mark (Dora) Scott; his daughter, Melinda King; his sister, Sherry Scott (Don Eischen); his grandchildren, Joshua Judkins, Skyler King, Lilliana Scott, and Mavrick Scott; and his great-grandson, Blaine Judkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Walter Ray Scott, Jr. “Chip”; his sister, Jeannette Frampton; his brother, Roger Scott; his grandson, Justin Judkins; his great-grandson, Nolan Judkins; and his nephews, Tim Frampton and Randy Frampton.
