Dr. Richard Anthony Patti, age 92, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday October 11, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 24, 1934, in East Cleveland and was the only child of Marie and Anthony Patti. He graduated from Shaw High School in 1952 and was an honor student, baseball team captain and all-star pitcher. He came from a musical family and enjoyed playing the piano and tap dancing. During his time as a student from grade school through college, he worked for two family businesses- a grocery store in Cleveland and the Euclid Mentor Motel.
While attending Case Western Reserve University to study dentistry, by chance he met the future love of his life Patrica Ann Kindler. They were married in 1959 at St Mary's Church in Mentor OH. Together they had a wonderful 66-year marriage and raised 3 children. He graduated from CWRU in 1960 with a DDS Doctor of Dental Surgery and began a 42-year career as a dentist.
He served in the United States Air Force as a captain from 1961-63. He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola Florida. They had many fond memories while there including the birth of their first child Gary.
Richard and Patricia then moved to Toledo OH where he worked at the Toledo Health and Retiree Center for 12 years. In 1975 he accepted a position at the Danville VA Hospital where he worked until 1979. He then returned to Toledo and was named VA Dental Chief, a position he held for 25 years until his retirement in 2002, at age 68.
Richard was a fan of the local Toledo hockey teams from the 1960's through the 2021 season at the new arena. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the Toledo Blades, Hornets, Goaldiggers, Storm and Walleye. He was also a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians/Guardians baseball team and Cleveland Browns football team. Two of his personal favorite players were high school phenom pitcher Bob Feller and all-time quarterback Otto Graham.
Richard was preceded in his passing by his loving spouse Patricia 3/6/2026. He is survived by sons Gary, David (Anne), daughter Susan and grandchildren Audrey, Colette and Rachel. Extended relatives from the Cleveland area include Jennifer Patti and Janet Patti-Day.
The entire Patti family also wants to recognize the medical care of nephrologist Dr. Bikram Johar plus PCP Dr Lou Reiner and Dr Anthony Chung. He also received superb service at the Fresenius Kidney Care facility. Excellent care was also provided by Rai Towns thru the Home Instead Health Care Agency.
Sincere gratitude to granddaughter Rachel Patti for all her time assisting both her grandparents. She provided transportation and accompanied Richard to all his dialysis sessions. Thank you, Rachel, for keeping him going as long as you did.
Richard was a lifetime Catholic and a long-time member of Christ the King Parish in Toledo, Ohio. The family was honored to have CK Pastor Father Dave Nuss perform the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in his final days.
Richard was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, a medical professional, a military veteran, a civic minded person, and an active participant in his faith. He had a great sense of humor. Who could ask for anything more? His legacy will last forever.
