Richard W. Mills, 81, of Summerville, passed away peacefully at his home on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the comfort and love of family.

Richard was born on July 24, 1944, in San Diego to Samuel W. Mills and Mary Belle (Wrightsmen) Mills. He lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, humor, and deep devotion to those he loved.

Richard was a dedicated worker throughout his life. His career included serving in the Army Air National Guard before beginning a 32-year career with Western Electric, later known as Lucent Technologies. After retiring, he began a second career with TTI Technologies, where he continued to demonstrate the same strong work ethic and commitment that defined him.

Following his retirement from TTI, Richard enjoyed spending time pursuing hobbies such as photography and writing for personal enjoyment. He was an avid golfer, a die-hard fan of Michigan Wolverines football — proudly declaring “Go Blue” whenever he had the chance — and someone who never missed an opportunity to make others laugh. He was especially known for his love of limericks and his unforgettable opening line: “There once was a man…” — IYKYK.

Richard was also an active and devoted father who loved watching and coaching his children in their sporting events throughout the years. Some of his happiest memories were made on the sidelines, cheering them on and supporting them every step of the way.

Above all else, Richard took the greatest pride in his family and close friendships. He was an excellent provider, generous beyond belief, and someone whose kindness and sense of humor left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Belle Mills, and his brother, Dennis Mills. Richard is survived by his children, Amy (Mark) Cline, Kelly Thibert, Michael Mills, and Samuel (Anya) Ansara; his beloved grandchildren, Maddie, Jessica, Matthew, Gabe, Nick, Ava, and Paxton; and his great-grandchildren, Callie and Jack.

Richard will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of his family and friends.
