Marlin Worstell

November 15, 1937 — September 3, 2025

Marlin Worstell, 87, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, in Maumee, Ohio. Born on November 15, 1937, in Charleston, West Virginia, Marlin lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. A proud member of the first graduating class of Rogers High School, Marlin went on to serve his country with honor. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961, he was stationed at Fort Irwin in California as part of the 53rd Transportation Unit until 1963. He also was a lifelong member of the Freemasons following in his family's legacy. He worked hard through the ranks of Masonry and became Past Worshipful Master in 1992. His time in the military and Masons reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment-qualities that would define him throughout his life.

Marlin shared a beautiful marriage with his beloved wife Darlene Worstell for 59 years. Their love story was one of daily devotion and heartfelt gestures. Every morning without fail, Marlin would leave Darlene an "I love you" note before heading out to get her coffee. He often surprised her with flowers and cards just to remind her how much she meant to him. He cooked dinner with care and cherished every moment they spent together. He was a devoted father to daughters Shelly (Craig) Cooper and Kelly (Laron) Leake. Marlin never missed a school function or milestone for his children or grandchildren. His presence was constant, a steady source of support and joy.

Marlin's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Scott (Ashley) Kujawa, Heather (Casey) Kujawa- Creager, Alison (Danté) Kujawa, Corinne (Marcus) Tibbs, Kendall (Alexandra) Leake, Kyle (Jessica) Leake, and Charlotte (Daniel) Abdo; as well as through his 15 great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and happiness. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews who were touched by his warmth and generosity. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Amon Worstell; brothers Garrett Worstell and John Worstell; sister Rosezella Hall; and son Keith Schmidlin.

Marlin had a magnetic personality- outgoing, caring, giving, fun-loving, and energetic. Everyone who knew him loved him. Whether it was playing cards with Shelly, where he often remained undefeated, or sharing comic book movies with Kelly as they bonded over their mutual love for the DC and Marvel universes, Marlin created lasting memories with those closest to him. He found joy in simple pleasures: fishing on quiet mornings (catching the 1st fish, the biggest fish, and the most), tending to his garden with care and going for scenic car rides just to look at the lake's calm waters. He loved spending time with family and friends playing cards or games around the table. One of his favorite traditions was letting the grandkids play hooky from school so they could spend the day together watching movies, riding go-carts, or feeding ducks at the park.

To those who knew him best, Marlin was strong as Thor, yet sweet as an angel, a rare combination that made him unforgettable. Marlin's memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May his legacy of love continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
