Lucille B. Speier, age 99 of West Toledo passed away peacefully, November 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 1, 1923, to Adam and Stella (Madry) Bieniek. Lucille graduated from Woodward High School in 1941. Immediately after graduation, her career started as a payroll system analyst. In 1950, she was hired at Owens Illinois Duraglas Center and became the personnel/activities director for women. After raising her family, she was a real estate agent for 22 years, making many friends along the way.
She was married in 1948 to Harold Paulen. They had a daughter, Renee, and they later divorced. In June 1956, she married her soulmate, Thad Speier and they had two sons, Gregory, and Christopher. They were married for 54 wonderful years.
Lucille filled her life with many service organizations that benefitted from her time and talents starting with her church, Christ the King and later St. Clement Church. She was president of Altar Rosary Society for two years and was known for her pineapple upside
down cakes and raspberry cheese pies at festivals, monthly bake sales and funeral luncheons. She became a Eucharistic Minister in 1979 and was honored to perform that duty well into her 90's. Lucille was a member of the Salesian Club for over 44 years, and she contributed financially to her church to the end of her life.
Thad and Lucille joined the American Legion Vernon McCune Post 132 and Auxiliary in 1991 and were very active members. In 1999, Lucille became a chaplain and held the position until 2018. Lucille enjoyed traveling with Thad, whether to Ohio Amish country or Hawaii. You could always find her in the garden growing roses, herbs, tomatoes, and those wonderful red raspberries.
Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, three brothers, son-inlaw Michael Scholler and her loving husband, Thad who died May 1, 2010.
Lucille is survived by her loving family, daughter Renee Scholler, sons, Gregory (Deborah) and Christopher (Suzanne) Speier, grandchildren, Rachel (Douglas) Blake, Lauren and Krista Speier, Philip Scholler, Kim and Kate Arnold, Tara (Kirk) Schenk, great grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Stephen and Alexa Blake, Jayce and James Scholler, Madalyn Schenk, great great grandson, Cameron Squibb. Also surviving are cherished nephew James (Diana) Leitner and their families.

In Lucille's memory, contributions may be made to St. Clement Church, Toledo, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home 5055 Secor Rd. Toledo is assisting the family.
