John Roger Baranoski

John Baranoski, age 84, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly in his East Toledo home. Born July 23, 1941, to Stan ley "Sox" and Florence "Flo" Mary (Downing) Baranoski, John was a lifelong East Toledoan. A 1959 Macomber High School graduate, he learned about trades, then John joined the Navy as an Airman, and was eventually promoted to Aviation Electricians Mate 2nd Class. He was stationed at Atsugi Naval Air Station in Japan, and on the USS Ticonderoga, CV14, where he supported operations in Vietnam. After his service, he returned to Toledo and never left. John started working as a pinsetter at a local bowling alley. Then he worked at both Gerkins Electric and St. Charles Hospital as an electrician. Later, John worked for many years at Chrysler and retired from there.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Judith (Baranoski) Zehr; and brothers, Raymond and Thomas Baranoski. He is survived by 12 nieces and nephews; and sister-in law, Barbara Baranoski Ruffert. Also surviving are his two dear friends, his neighbor, Cindy; and John Engler, a coworker at Chrysler. After John's retirement from Chrysler in 2000, the "Johns" remained steadfast friends and went to breakfast every Wednesday at Ameri can Table in Oregon. John was an avid bowler with many 300 games. He loved his country and was a very proud Navy Veteran. John's loves were his family, sports cars, collectibles, NAS CAR, and bowling!
John's visitation will be Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a remembrance service at 6:30 p.m., in Urbanski Funeral Home - a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd., Toledo, Ohio. Interment will be held on July 23, 2026, in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to any veteran's organization, such as DAV, American legion, VFW, or Catholic War Veterans, in John's name.
