Dorothy Mae Karmol, 97, passed away on November 1, 2026. She was born on May 2, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio, to Henry L. and Mary A. Kosky. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. In recent years, she attended mass every day on EWTN.
Dorothy graduated from the Ursuline Academy in 1947 where she had a job working the switchboard to pay for her education. After graduation she worked her entire career as an artist for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company designing and illustrating Yellow Page ads. She took pleasure in doing artwork and began drawing cartoon characters from the newspaper when she was 8 years old. She loved to watercolor and studied with Walter H. Chapman. She enjoyed gardening and liked planting all kinds of flowers and herbs. She was a wonderful baker and made delicious black walnut and pineapple upside-down birthday cakes and Christmas cookies. She married Keith A. Karmol on July 13, 1968, and together they enjoyed traveling, cruising, dancing, bowling, golfing, fishing, and watching westerns.
Dorothy was loved by ALL of her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Her nephew, Michael, took especially good care of her for the past 15 years. She loved and relied on him to help her every day. She was more than just an aunt to all of us; she was a person who filled family gatherings with love, laughter, and joy. Aunt Dorothy had an uncanny ability to capture the essence of a family party or holiday with her little Kodak Instamatic camera with flashcubes. Those candid snapshots she took will forever be cherished, preserving the memories of our shared adventures and precious family gatherings.
Dotty especially loved her sister, Margie. They shared a close bond their entire lives. Known as the Kosky girls, they enjoyed roller skating, going to the movies, dancing and shopping. In recent years, they spent weekends together chatting, laughing, watching old movies and eating candy.
Dorothy’s journey on this earth may have come to an end, but her spirit and influence will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and all those she touched. Aunt Dorothy, we will miss you and we bid you farewell with love and gratitude, knowing that you are now in the loving arms of your Savior.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Margaret (Margie) Gurtzweiler and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by many family members including her parents, her husband Keith and her brother Robert Kosky.
