Obituaries - In Loving Memory

Rudy Paul Sheriff
January/20/1959 - November/14/2023

Rudy Paul Sheriff, 64, transitioned from mortality into eternity on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, surrounded by his family and following a courageous 7-year-long battle with cancer. Born in Fostoria on January 20, 1959, Rudy split the years of his youth between NW Ohio and Michigan. In his very early years, Rudy picked blueberries, babysat, had a newspaper route, and mowed lawns to earn enough pocket change to enjoy a Cherry Coke fountain drink from his favorite corner store, Kenwood Pharmacy. After graduating from Whitmer High School in 1977, Rudy immediately enlisted in the United States Army and was eventually stationed in Germany where, by divine design, he would ultimately cross paths with the love of his life and future mother of his children. In the decades to follow, Rudy’s unwavering work ethic and ability to master new skills on demand earned him the esteemed title of “Jack of all trades” by those fortunate enough to have worked at his side or enjoyed his service.

Those privileged to be at Rudy’s side during the final chapter of his life know that he was not afraid to depart from his earthly body, but also fervently desired to see his grandchildren grow older and experience God’s creation to the fullest. Rudy’s selfless love for his family, second only to his trust in his Heavenly Father, permitted him to fearlessly make countless sacrifices in pursuit of the precious gift of Time…right up to the moment of his very last breath.
Rudy’s family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital (Columbus) who compassionately journeyed alongside Rudy as extraordinary support became essential to his care. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make memorial contributions in his name are asked to consider OhioHealth Foundation Bing Cancer Center.

Rudy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marion (Schulze) Sheriff; his brothers, James (Carol) Sheriff, Kevin Sheriff, and Jay (Martha) Miller; his son, Benjamin (Jennifer) Sheriff; his daughter, Andrea (Corey) Guyton; his son, Jonathan Sheriff; eight grandchildren, Dominic, Kaelin, Jaylin, Ivy, Jenna, Mack, Avery, and Gwendolyn; five great-grandchildren, and many other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Miller; his in-laws, Marsha (Kazmierczak) Sheriff, and Janet (Paulsen) Miller.
