Phylis A. Kruzel
November/12/1938 - June/3/2023

Phylis A. Kruzel age 84 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away June 3, 2023, at home after a 28-year battle with breast cancer. Phylis was born November 12, 1938, to Alfred and Selma (Hogue) Gaffney. A 1956 Clay High School graduate, she worked at Toledo Scale, in the secretarial pool when she met the love of her life Dan. She married Daniel Kruzel in 1958 @ St. Joseph Church Erie, MI. Together they raised four boys. After 12 years of being a stay-at-home mom, she returned to work at Merchants Accounting and Tax Service where she was employed for several years. Phylis, along with her son Mark, started Balanced Books Accounting and Tax Service, that was sold in 2001. Starting the next tax season, she worked for H&R Block as a seasonal tax preparer, retiring in 2019.
Phylis was a loving wife, selfless mother, dedicated grandmother and great grandmother who loved watching all her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s games and events. She was an active parishioner at both St. Ann, and Gesu Catholic churches. She played dulcimer with the Toledo Dulcimer Society weekly at several of the local nursing homes. She celebrated every day as a proud member of the Red Hats Society, wherever she went wearing her favorite red hat. Phylis enjoyed people, being involved doing most anything, especially her stock club breakfast and dinner meetings.
Surviving are her loving husband of 64 years, Daniel, beloved sons Martin (Julie) Kruzel, Mark (Kelly) Kruzel, Mike (Julie) Kruzel and Joseph (Amy) Kruzel, grandchildren, Christopher (Anna) Kruzel, Nicholas (JoLynn) Kruzel, Kristina (Eric) Sowinski, Benjamin Kruzel, Kimberly (Robert) Kahle, A.J. (Rachel) Kruzel, Matthew Kruzel, Danny (Sarah) Kruzel, Michaela (Jedediah) Caldwell, Jaime (Maurice) Kruzel, Abigail (Drew Huffman) Kruzel, great grandchildren, Joci Werth, Megan, Brooke, Erin, Lauren Kruzel, Collin, Max, Kenzie Sowinski, C.J., Jane Kruzel, Grantly Kruzel, Alyssa Kahle. Preceding her in death were her parents, twin brother Phillip Gaffney and sister Lois Korn.


Memorial Services
Phylis’s Life Celebration will be Tuesday June 13, from 2pm until 8pm. where the Rosary will be prayed 7pm at Urbanski Funeral Home a Life Celebration Home, 5055 Secor Rd. Toledo Ohio. Visitation will continue at 10am Wednesday June 14, in Gesu Catholic Church 2049 Parkside Blvd. Toledo, Ohio, where the Funeral Mass will begin at 11am with Fr. Marty Lukas officiating. Interment will be private in Calvary Cemetery.
